Homemade Treatments for Sensitive Scalp

Approximately 60% of women and 40% of men suffer from a sensitive scalp. How do you tell if what you are experiencing is a sensitive scalp? Look out for symptoms such as burning, tingling, itching, redness, or even pain. What is more, you may be diagnosed with a hyper reactive or hypersensitive scalp if your symptoms are severe.

If you have difficulties trusting hair care products in the market to treat your scalp, you may want to prepare your own home made treatment. This kind of treatment is incredibly easy, as well as effective, for treating dry, flaky, and sensitive scalp. It is also great for nourishing the roots and restoring hair moisture and lust over time. You will only need five minutes to finish preparing this DIY hair mask.

How to prepare the treatment

Mix olive oil with another type of oil or cinnamon. You may use coconut oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, or even avocado oil. To get an additional anti-bacterial boost, you could add several drops of tea tree oil that has a reputation of fighting dandruff.

How to apply the treatment

Massage your hair oil into your scalp, and then cover your head with a towel. Allow the oils to rest on your head for at least 30 minutes. If you are not in a hurry, leave it for longer, because the longer it stays on your head, the more effective it becomes. Ideally, the best time to do this is at night, so that you can allow the oil to penetrate in your scalp during the whole night.

Also, heating the oils in the microwave can enhance their effectiveness by speeding up the rate of absorption. However, do not let the oils get hot; letting the oils catch some warmth for around 5 to 10 seconds is enough. This treatment should be repeated every week for 2 months.

This method appears the most effective to me for treating sensitive scalp. It requires some extra efforts, although the results are worth the time invested. Another positive side of this treatment is that after applying it for a couple of months, you will not need to apply it as often, just once in a while, so as to keep your scalp happy. It is also highly flexible, allowing you to experiment with different ingredients and the application technique to get your desired results.
