What Oils Seal in Moisture to Your Hair
You do not have to go for fancy, big name hair products. Sometimes the simple, readily available products are the best. Most of these can be found in your local food store. If you have never tried them, give natural oils a chance. Most of these work as great sealants. Besides locking moisture in, natural oils are loaded with properties that are beneficial to your overall hair health.
Sweet Almond Oil
One of the most common, and effective, hair sealing oils is sweet almond oil. This natural product has incredible sealant properties. It helps lock the moisture in for a longer time than most, if not all, types of synthetic sealants. In addition to locking moisture in, sweet almond oil nourishes hair. The oil is also believed to smooth hair cuticles to control shedding. It also promotes hair growth and thickness, prevents hair loss, and boosts hair shine.
Jojoba oil is another excellent hair sealing oil. It is relatively light but effective in sealing moisture in natural hair. It is worth noting that jojoba oil is a popular natural sealant because its properties are similar to those of natural hair oil, or sebum. For persons suffering from excessive dry hair conditions, including Seborrheic Dermatitis, it is advisable to massage jojoba oil before washing as the oil restores lost moisture. It also balances scalp and hair PH.
Grape Seed Oil
Another natural sealant that is worth anyone’s attention is grape seed oil. This natural oil is odorless. It can, thus, be used by all those who are sensitive to fragrance. Although grape seed oil may not work effectively with thick hair, it works exemplary well with finer and thinner hair textures. Grape seed oil can also be used as a heat protectant thanks to its ability to withstand high temperatures. For the best results, you may need to use this oil as a deep treatment with a few drops (preferably 8) of lavender oil on a monthly basis.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
The fourth hair sealing oil that is worth giving a chance is Jamaican black castor oil. This natural sealant, abbreviated as JBCO, is the raw version of castor oil. The oil has incredible softening properties. It is also widely used for its ability to draw out impurities and enhance hair growth. JBCO’s honey-like consistency makes it an ideal sealant for people with thicker hair textures.
If, however, you feel that oils do not provide enough sealant or hold, you can try some soft but thick butter like raw shea butter.
